- Players: Up to 8
- Deck Size: Minimum 40 cards
- Game Duration: Approximately 20 minutes per game
How to Draft
- Seating Arrangement: Players sit around a table in a semi-circle.
- First Pack: Each player opens a booster pack and selects one card without revealing it to others.
- Passing Cards: Pass the remaining cards to the player on your left. Continue drafting from the new cards you receive from the player on your right.
- Second Pack: Open a second booster pack and pass the cards to the right this time.
- Third Pack: Open the third booster pack and pass to the left again.
- Deck Building: By the end of the draft, each player will have approximately 45 cards. Use these, along with any number of basic lands, to build a 40-card deck.
What is Booster Draft and How is it Done?
Booster Draft is a format that emphasizes on-the-spot deck building and strategic decision-making. Here’s a detailed breakdown:
- Step 1: Drafting: Each player starts with three packs of cards. You open one pack and pick a single card. The remaining cards are passed to the left. This process continues until all cards in the pack are drafted.
- Step 2: Second Pack: Open the second pack, but this time, pass the cards to the right. Repeat the drafting process.
- Step 3: Third Pack: Open the third pack and pass to the left again. Draft until all cards are picked.
- Step 4: Deck Building: After drafting, you’ll have around 45 cards. Use these to construct a 40-card deck. Basic lands are provided as needed.
Why Play This Format?
- Deckbuilding on the Spot: The Booster Draft format challenges you to build a competitive deck from a limited pool of cards, testing your deckbuilding skills.
- Different Every Time: No two drafts are the same. Each draft brings a unique combination of cards and strategies, ensuring a fresh experience every time you play.
- Level Playing Field: Since everyone starts with the same number of packs, the format creates a balanced playing field, focusing on skill and strategy.
