Hello! I’m Gwendolyn Marshall (she/her)! I’m co-owner of Arcanist Press, writer of double-ENNIE Award winning Ancestry & Culture: An Alternative to Race in 5e, staff designer for 2CGaming, contributor to MCDM’s Arcadia, and 5e designer for Pinnacle Entertainment. With Sigil Entertainment and Pinnacle Entertainment, i also wrote S5E: Superheroic Roleplaying for 5th Edition. In addition, I’m also a tenured professor of philosophy, a parent, and a pansexual transgender woman.
What kind of Game Master are you:
I like fun, relaxed games with a mix of combat and storytelling. I know the rules, but care more that everyone at the table has a fulfilling experience. I prize consent and communication, believe in respecting people’s pronouns and content preferences, and love geeking out about epic adventure.
What kind of games do you like to run?
I tend to avoid gritty, grimdark games and prefer hopeful or uplifting experiences. Don’t get me wrong; I am also a sucker for poignant and meaningful sacrifice and tragedy, but loss and suffering must ultimately serve to create satisfying and profound experiences for everyone involved. Genre-wise, that means i like high fantasy, hopepunk, quirky, comic, or casual games. And realism? We’re playing games with magic and dragons! Realism isn’t a priority for me. I do like some games set in the “real” world, but they almost always have heavy fantasy or sci-fi elements.
What RPG Games/Systems are you familiar with running?
I am polygamerous! I’ve been playing D&D since 1982 and have run 5e since 2014. But I also have experience running Savage Worlds, World of Darkness, lots of Powered by the Apocalypse games, Numenera/Cypher System, and GUMSHOE games, among others.
Do you have any projects, products or things you would like to share?
