Jay Africa (he/him/his) is a Los Angeles-based RPG designer and Game Master. He has written adventures for the D&D Adventurers League and his most recent work can be seen in the newly released Carbon Grey RPG. In addition to his design work, Jay runs RPGs professionally for kids and teens with Writopia Lab. You can watch him play on gaming streams such as the Saving Throw Show, Geek & Sundry’s Game the Game, and Happy Jack’s RPG Podcast. When he isn’t running games, Jay enjoys visiting museums, exploring Los Angeles, and sharing life experiences with his two cool kids. Roll Initiative!

What kind of Game Master are you:

I’m a forever GM/DM who self-identifies as a “campfire GM”, treating my games like storytelling around a campfire. I have a theatre background and love incorporating voices into my games. Storytelling and compelling NPCs are only my side of the story, however! Giving players epic adventures, moments in the spotlight, meaningful choices, and fun experiences are what brings me to the table.

What kind of games do you like to run?

Coming from a D&D background, I enjoy heroic fantasy, whether casual one-shots or ongoing campaigns. I greatly enjoy running other game genres as well, however: contemporary or modern, sci fi, horror, etc.

What RPG Games/Systems are you familiar with running?

D20 (Dungeons & Dragons), Fate AE/Core (Atomic Robo, Tachyon Squadron), PBtA (Avatar Legends, the Happiest Apocalypse on Earth, Monster of the Week), West End Games D6 (Carbon Grey, Ghostbusters, Men In Black, Star Wars), Year Zero Engine (Alien, Tales From the Loop)

Do you have any projects, products or things you would like to share with us?
